African Women’s Voices
5th, 7th & 8th November 2008

Organise a  unique opportunities to hear the perspectives of grass-roots African Women campaigners on vital issues for Peace and Development in Africa

  1. Wednesday 5th November 2008, 2 – 6pm, Parliament, London, SW1A 2LW   .African women activists will be speaking about their experiences of conflict, and their work for human rights, peace building, aid effectiveness and development in their own countries. This meeting will be hosted by Baroness Joyce Gould and Jeremy Corbyn MP.
  1. Friday 7th November, 1-3pm, Chatham House, Round Table meeting.
  1. Saturday 8th November, 10am – 4.30pm, Seminar. Amnesty Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard, London, EC2A 3EA. African women will speak and join in discussion groups with UK Diaspora organisations and NGO activists, considering how to further African women’s participation in peace building, development and governance.

  • Miriam Machaya from Zimbabwe (Family Support Trust, and Christian Aid)
  • Mildred Sharra and Prosperine Kamanga from Malawi ( Coalition of Women Farmer, and  Action Aid)
  • Alice Ukoko from Nigeria (Women of Africa and WILPF UK)
  • Annie Matundu  & Jeanine Ngungu from the D.R.Congo  (WILPF DRC & CAUSE COMMUNE RDC) and Drocele Mugomoka ( WILPF  East DRC)
